Australian Festival ‘Inner Varnika’ Announces 2023 Will Be Its Last Event

The organisers posted the news earlier today via the event’s Instagram page.

Australian festival, Inner Varnika has announced that its 2023 edition will be its last. After launching in 2023, the promoters feel that the decade milestone is a good place to pause.

The promoters of the event announced the news via their Instagram page that their event running April 7th through to April 9th 2023 will be the last one they run for the foreseeable future.

Headliners for the upcoming event include the likes of Donato Dozzy, DJ Sprinkles and Flo Dill along with numerous others, both local and international.

Inner Varnika takes place three hours from Melbourne in Djagurd Wurrung Country and the promoters said: “When we set out a decade ago, we aimed to create a space that didn’t really exist yet: the small-scale, independent, community-centric, DIY-type of festival that is purely about exceptional music and freedom of expression.” They continued by saying: “Now we’re part of a large and growing ecosystem of such events and that’s something we’re proud to have been an integral part of authoring. But we feel ten years is a milestone, a marker and a good opportunity to step back, take stock and allow some time and space to explore new things. We’re not sure what comes next, but what we do know is there won’t be an Inner Varnika next year.”

Their decision not to return Inner Varnika in 2024 comes as part of a string of recent festival cancellations in Australia. In the past few months, six events were forced to cancel including Strawberry Fields, 2 Degrees and Tabula Rasa. Reasons have ranged from environmental issues such as floods and potential bush fires to poor ticket sales.
