Angel Moraes has died at the age of 55

Angel Moraes was a Brooklyn-born artist who left his mark on the New York club scene in the late ’90s and early ’90s when house music was in its infancy.

He was widely regarded as one of the best house artists in his era, and held in high regard as both a producer and DJ.

Many also knew him as half owner of the Hot ‘N’ Spycy record label, and in 1998 he cofounded the Stereo nightclub based in Montreal.

He also produced several tracks for labels such as Subliminal, Nervous, Strictly Rhythm and Renaissance. Some career achievements included an official remix of a track by the Petshop Boys.

The sad news was announced via his Facebook page, and has sparked friends and colleagues from the music industry to pay their respects on social media.

Mournful well-wishers include everyone from Defected Records owner Simon Dunmore to Paul Woolford.
